Level 1: HIPAA & Privacy - Research

This module includes HIPAA & Privacy General Awareness Training.

If you are involved in human subject research, you only need to complete this one training module and sign the UF Confidentiality Statement once every 12 months to be in compliance with Privacy Office requirements.
No other training is required by the Privacy Office for individuals conducting human subject research.

If you are a newly hired employee, and don't have an active job assignment in MyUFL, complete HIPAA for Visitors and Vendors. Later, as soon as your job is activated, complete the full HIPAA General Awareness or Research training, using your MyUFL account to become registered in that training system.

If you are an applicant (student or employment), vendor, or other type of visitor, complete HIPAA for Visitors and Vendors. Applicants who later have an active job assignment will need to complete the full HIPAA General Awareness or Research training, using their myUFL account to become registered in that training system.

Instructions for accessing myUFL Training

You must Enroll in the training before you can complete it:

Log into myUFL >
1. Choose My Self Service >
2. Choose Training and Development >
3. Under Training Registration, choose
4. Request Training Enrollment >

Choose Search by Course Number >
1. Enter PRV801 for HIPAA & Privacy - Research >
2. Click Search >
3. Click View Available Sessions >
4. Click “Online Session: 0001-Online” (the only one that should come up) >

Click Enroll >
After you are enrolled, you can complete the training immediately or come back and complete it later. To come back later, click OK. Access your enrolled courses through your Training Summary.

Complete the Training:
1. Click on the web-link provided

2. Run the Browser Check
3. Log into the training program >
4. Read the instructions and begin.

Other Instructions

This module takes 45 - 50 minutes to complete. Read the information on each slide, then click anywhere on the slide to proceed to the next one.

There is a quiz/assessment at the end of the training and it can only be accessed from the link on the last training slide. There are questions scattered throughout the module, but, for the 10 questions in the final quiz, you must score at least 70% to pass.

You will receive a certificate at the end, and only at the end. Be sure to save and/or print the screen.
The training will also show up in your personal myUFL Training Summary after midnight.
Training completion reports will be available to those who have access to Enterprise Reporting.

Don't forget to sign your Confidentiality Statement! Access it through the menu to your left.

Instructions for Privacy Website Training

Read these instructions first, then click on the BEGIN button at the bottom. Read the information on each slide. Press the NEXT (or BACK) button at the top of each frame to proceed from slide to slide.

There are 20 questions to answer at the end. If you select the correct answers the slides will automatically proceed to the next question. If you select an incorrect answer you will be informed that it was incorrect, but will not be given another opportunity to answer the question.

A 70% score is needed for successful completion of the review test and printing of a certificate. Only passing scores will be saved electronically for tracking.

This training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and must be finished in one sitting. If you close the window before reaching the end, you will need to begin again. Please do not close the window until you see the Certificate of Completion, which appears at the end, after the registration page.

Register to receive your Certificate of Completion. Print it out for your records, if you need it. Successful completion and registration of this training module are recorded by the Privacy Office.

Register At the End
Use either your UF ID# or a pseudo-number to register your completion.
If you do not have a UFID, you should use ####-0000, where the first 4 digits are a set of numbers that means something to you, such as part of a phone #, zip code, or address. Please do not use all 0's!!!

If you have a UF ID#, please use it, and please enter it correctly.

Browsers and Pop-Up Blockers
The training is best accessed through Internet Explorer. It will also work with other common browsers and MacIntosh systems, but slides may be distorted. If you have difficulties, please let us know.

The training module appears as a pop-up box. If you click below on Begin Research and Privacy and keep returning to this page, you have a "Pop-Up Blocker" installed. Disable the blocker or use a different computer that allows pop-ups from this page. Speak to your computer support person, if necessary, for help.
